It is shown that the composition of a cotelomer can be predicted when the kinetic constants of the system (r1, r2, C(T1), C(T2) and the concentration ratio of the two monomers at the beginning of the reaction are known. For this purpose, we used the statistical theory of cotelomerization in the cases of the cotelomers dodecanethiol/methyl methacrylate/maleic anhydride and dodecanethiol/methyl methacrylate/2,3-epoxypropyl methacrylate. We calculated the probabilities of reaction between the various reactants in the mixture, then the probabilities of having cotelomers with well-defined compositions and then the functionality of the cotelomer. In the two cases studied, we verified experimentally the theoretically calculated functionalities and found good correlation between theory and practice.
