摘要
The kinetics and position of equilibrium of the thermal isomerization IIa ⇄ IIb and IIIa ═ IIb were investigated in the temperature range of 140-160°. Substituents at C5 accelerate the equilibration reaction by factors of 3-16 in II and III compared with I. The effect of the methyl bridgehead substituent in III amounts to a rate increase over that for II, by factors of 8 and 15 for the pairs IIIa-IIa and IIIb–IIb, respectively. Activation parameters for compounds I, II, and III are compared and mechanistic conjectures are made. © 1968, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
