Exposed bone, even in conjunction with a fracture, will cover spontaneously with granulation tissue followed by epithelium, or will sequestrate and then cover, providing there is adequate circulation at the wound site. The healing process is lengthy but need not interfere with the reestablishment of function of the wounded part. The method requires surgical restraint but has a high success rate and avoids the risks and failures of complicated skin transfer methods. © 1979.
