SUPERCONDUCTIVITY IN LA2-XSRXCACU2O6 AT 60-K - INVESTIGATION OF DOPING AND HIGH-PRESSURE ANNEALING

A systematic investigation of the effect of oxygen pressure during annealing and of varying Sr content on the structural and superconducting properties of La2-xSrxCaCu2O6 has been carried out. To get the highest T(c) of 60 K, the required annealing pressure was 200 bar of oxygen at 970-degrees-C. This T(c) = 60 K sample has FACV approximately 2.17 and an oxygen content of 6.02-6.05 per formula unit. Although many variations in the preparation conditions were tried, the 60 K superconductor was always found to be associated with an impurity phase La(8-x)SrxCu8O20. The amount of this impurity phase increased with increasing Sr content and with increasing oxygen pressure.
