摘要
The small molecule fraction isolated from peripheral nerves has been partially characterized. Five to 24 hours after radioactive amino acids were presented to the animal as much as 90% of the isotope in the nerve was recovered in the small molecule fraction. The radioactivity in this fraction was found to be distributed between the original amino acid and several of its metabolic derivatives. The results show that peripheral nerve maintains a large pool of amino acids and suggest that the tissue contains enzymes necessary for the degradation and interconversion of amino acids. © 1969.
