VIROSTATIC EFFECTIVENESS AND CLINICAL APPLICABILITY OF 1-ALLYL-3,5-DIETHYL-6-CHLOROURACIL

1-allyl-3,5-diethyl-6-chlorouracil (AClU) has been found to be of chemotherapeutic value against herpes and vaccinia viruses in tissue cultures as well as against experimental herpes keratitis in rabbit. In following this in vitro and in vivo virostatic activity AClU has also been tried clinically. The investigations show that 1-allyl-3,5-diethyl-6-chlorouracil applied topically as 1% solution is efficacious in the treatment of all types of recurring herpetic skin and mucous diseases including herpes genitalis as well as stomatitis aphthosa. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
