The technique and apparatus for determining the void spaces and pores in a porous material by use of a penetration porosimeter are described. From the volume of mercury penetrating the porous material as a function of pressure, other characteristics, such as the particle size distribution and specific surface, can be determined. In addition, information regarding the shape and structure of pores can be obtained from the volume of mercury expelled from the pores as a function of decreasing pressure. © 1969.
