摘要
The cross section for the capture of an electron by an incident proton from a ground-state hydrogen atom is evaluated using relativistic classical mechanics and the Thomas approach (1927) involving two successive binary encounters. It is found that the capture cross section falls off as E kin-3 with increasing kinetic energy Ekin of the incident proton referred to the target atom.
