Venous thrombus formation is a known complication after the Fontan procedure. To characterize the clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, treatment regimens and outcome of this disease process, we retrospectively reviewed the records of 7 patients who developed systemic venous or pulmonary arterial thrombosis after modifications of the Fontan operation. Clinical features were analyzed to identify "risk factors" that may predispose to thrombus formation. © 1991.
