Low-frequency resistance fluctuations in niobium films were found to have not only noise from long-range hydrogen diffusion, but also 1/f noise associated with hydrogen. The noise statistics of this component often were not consistent with fluctuations of scattering cross sections from single hydrogen atoms or from small groups of hydrogen atoms. Some inhomogeneities of hydrogen concentration on a scale of roughly 10 nm seem to be required. © 1990 The American Physical Society.
