摘要
It is suggested that the determination of the parameters of resonances in the presence of a fluctuating background of relatively narrow and dense compound nucleus resonances should be treated as a communication problem. The general formalism is described in the present paper. Most probable values and probability distributions of the resonance parameters are derived, in the Gaussian approximation. The concept of information is introduced and its variational property is used as a justification of the Gaussian approximation. A first very elementary application is discussed. © 1968.
