THERMODYNAMICS OF CATION EXCHANGE ON SEMI-CRYSTALLINE ZIRCONIUM PHOSPHATE

摘要
The equilibrium exchange of Li+, K+ and Cs+ ions with the hydrogen form of semicrystalline zirconium phosphate at a constant ionic strength of 0.1 M in the reaction: RH+M+⇄RM+H+ has been studied at 25°. Solid phase activity coefficients for the exchanging ions and free energy changes were evaluated from the ion-exchange isotherms. The enthalpies of reaction were obtained by direct calorimetric measurements and the corresponding entropy values were calculated. The thermodynamic functions are interpreted in terms of the nature of the bonding between the alkali metal ions and the matrix and the concomitant changes in hydration. © 1969.
