MATERNAL CHARACTERISTICS OF HATCHING ENZYMES IN HYBRID SEA URCHIN EMBRYOS

摘要
Sea urchin hatching enzyme is studied as a gene product appearing early in development. Crude hatching enzymes from Strongylocentrotus purpuratus and S. franciscanus can be distinguished by the sensitivity of their activities to inhibition by Mn2+. When reciprocal hybrids of the two species are prepared, each hybrid enzyme is characterized as entirely maternal, within the limits of the method. The inference that transcription for hatching enzyme occurs during oogenesis is evaluated and supported. © 1969.
