摘要
In 3 experiments while mouse killing by male Long-Evans rats was suppressed following punishment, Ss were presented with mice and either high- or low-intensity shock, bright light, loud buzzer, or no stimulus. Shock of both intensities always induced immediate killing, even though low-intensity shock resulted in no responses characteristic of pain. Neither buzzer nor light induced killing. Inconsistent mouse-killing Ss were reliably induced to kill only by high-intensity shock. High-intensity shock induced consistent killers to kill mice presented 5 sec. after shock termination. Results were interpreted in terms of arousal rather than pain elicitation of aggression. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved). © 1969 American Psychological Association.
