摘要
A coupled channel formalism in terms of angle dependent phase shifts is introduced for the description of the excitation of rotational states in a sudden collision. Some heuristic and semiclassical arguments are invoked in order to establish an approximate expression for the inelastic scattering amplitude which allows one to avoid the explicit numerical solution of the coupled channel equations. A detailed calculation for the multiple Coulomb excitation problem is presented. In the case where also a nuclear potential is present, the relation to the Austern-Blair theory is worked out. © 1979.
