A simple method for the voltammetric characterization of chemically synthesized conductive polymers such as polypyrrole is demonstrated. This method consists of dispersing the conductive polymer particles in a carrier polymer solution [e.g., Nafion(R) or poly(vinylchloride)], and subsequently immobilizing the resulting composite on a support electrode surface. The utility of these materials in electrocatalytic applications is also illustrated using the hydrogen evolution reaction as an example.
