The chemical characterization of the gum exudates from eight Australian Acacia species of the series Phyllodineae

The gum exudates (eleven specimens) from eight Acacia species of the series Phyllodineae (seven from subseries 6F, Uninerves racemosae, and one from subseries 7F, Plurinerves nervosae) have been completely characterized, in continuation of previous attempts to identify Acacia gums with unusual sugar and/or amino acid compositions which may serve as models of extreme types of Acacia gum structures. Of the exudates studied, the most interesting are those from Acacia pruinocarpa, which has a very high methoxyl content (5.4%), and A. fragilis and A. victoriae, which have an exceptionally low arabinose content (4%), but the nitrogen contents and amino acid compositions observed did not extend the ranges already established for these parameters.
