CRYSTALLIZATION OF FERRIC HYDROXIDE INTO SPINEL BY ADSORPTION ON COLLOIDAL MAGNETITE

摘要
Interaction between "ferric hydroxide" and colloidal magnetite in alkaline medium has been characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X ray powder diffraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and kinetics of dissolution in acidic medium. An adsorption reaction takes place immediately. It involves an interfacial electron transfer which starts magnetite oxidation and makes ferric hydroxide transform into a spinel layer growing epitactically on the particle surface. © 1992.
