ISOTOPE EFFECTS IN HD(G)+W(001)

Quasiclassical trajectory calculations were carried out on HD(g) + W (001) from low to hyperthermal energies (0.9 to 15 eV). The effects of both high rotational energy and high translational energy on this reaction were studied. We focus on translational and rotational energy isotope effects observed in the dissociative trapping channel (HD(g) + W (001) --> H(g) + D - W (001) or D(g) + H - W (001)). The isotope effects in dissociative trapping are compared to those observed in the analogous gas-phase reaction (HD(g) + A(g) --> HA (g) + D(g) or DA (g) + H(g), where A is an atom).
