Angular distributions have been measured for the N14(d,p)N15 reaction to levels up to 10.80-MeV excitation in N15. Distorted-wave Born-approximation fits have been obtained to most of these levels and absolute spectroscopic factors have been extracted. Although the spectroscopic factors for the low-lying 52+, 1/2+ doublet at 5.27, 5.30 MeV are very small, those for the next four positive-parity levels are close to the single-particle value of 1. To explain these features a weak-coupling model is proposed, in which an s12 or d52 particle is coupled to a core corresponding to the 1+, T=0 ground state of N14 or to the 0+, T=1 first excited state. Explicitly included in the model is the splitting due to the T•t force, which accounts for the low-lying position of the 52+, 1/2+ doublet. © 1969 The American Physical Society.
