METASTABLE STACKING SEQUENCES IN HEXAGONAL METALS

摘要
Energy surfaces have been calculated for the well-known sliding planes of hexagonal crystals by means of the Morse function. The energies are presented in units of the double surface energy. Metastable stacking sequences have been found to be possible on all planes. The possibilities of the experimental observation of these stacking faults are investigated, though their energies are large. Finally the possible zig-zag ways during dislocation slip are discussed. © 1969.
