Lowered, normal or raised α1-antitrypsin levels were found in 81 patients with acute or chronic relapsing pancreatitis and pancreatic carcinoma. 51 patients with chronic pancreatitis did not have α1-antitrypsin deficiency. Thus, in contrast to other reports, α1-antitrypsin deficiency and chronic pancreatitis do not seem to be in common association. © 1978 S. Karger AG, Basel.
