摘要
Analysis of 50 replies from state and insular laboratories indicated that: In most cases the procedure prescribed in Standard Methods of Water Analysis for storage and time of examination of water samples is not observed; a large number of water samples are examined after 24 hrs., and a considerable number after 48 hrs.; ice-packing of water samples is rapidly declining. Comparison of recovery of colon-group bacteria from iced and un-iced samples examined at varying periods indicated a very rapid death rate of Bacillus coli in bottled samples of contaminated waters, which was progressively greater as the period of holding increased. Icing, though of secondary importance, was definitely advantageous. Direct inoculations were found practicable and showed marked superiority over any other method.
