NMR STUDY OF WATER MOLECULE DYNAMICS IN FERROELECTRIC ROCHELLE SALT

The molecular dynamics of H2O groups in Rochelle salt has been studied by proton spin-lattice relaxation time (T1ρ{variant}) measurements in the rotating frame as well as deuteron T1 measurements in the region from 170-323°K. The NMR correlation times obtained from the T1ρ{variant} minimum are by three orders of magnitude longer than the dielectric ones. This and the absence of any ferroelectric" contribution to the relaxation rates demonstrates that the H2O molecules are not the main ferroelectric dipoles in the structure. © 1989."
