摘要
Examination of the deuterium distribution of the 2-methyl-3-phenylindene resulting from rearrangement of 2-phenyl-2-(perdeuteriophenyl)-1-methylenecyclopropane conclusively demonstrates that orbital symmetry does not control the net 1, 5 migration of hydrogen required to produce the indene. An alternative explanation is offered for the necessity of having diaryl substitution of C-2 of the 1-methylenecyclopropane in order to observe the isomerization. © 1979, American Chemical Society.
