PERSISTENT ANTIDIURESIS WITH HYPOALDOSTERONISM AND SODIUM WASTING IN HYPOPITUITARISM

Hyponatrmia due to water retention and wasting of sodium was observed in a patient with hypopituitarism and decreased secretion of aldosterone. Despite the development of a large sodium deficit during a period of sodium restriction, the patient's weight remained relatively stable and aldosterone secretion did not increase normally. The results of our studies on this patient suggest that both antidiuresis and suppression of the secretion of aldosterone in hypopituitarism may be related to increased secretion of antidiuretic hormone (ADH). © 1969.
