INDIRECT ESTIMATION OF COMPONENT VARIABILITY IN CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL SYSTEMS

摘要
An indirect method is presented for assessing the variability of a chemical component or a physical property, when that property may not be directly observed. The method is based upon a simple physical model incorporating stoichiometry and the observation of the variability of a second, related property and/or the ratio of the two properties. A principal result of the investigation is an expression giving limits for the relative standard deviation of component-A, φA-[FORMULA OMMITED] where φA/B2 and φB represent the relative standard deviations of the ratio of components-A and -B and of component-B, respectively. Information is also obtained on bounds for the correlation coefficient. © 1969, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
