Prazepam‐5‐14C [7‐chloro‐l‐(cyclopropylmethyl)‐5‐phenyl‐1H‐1,4‐benzodiazepin‐2(3H)‐one] was primarily eliminated with the feces in unaltered form following the oral administration of 10 mg./kg. to dogs. Prazepam resembled diazepam and oxazepam in the low blood levels and extensive fecal excretion. Further similarity of prazepam to diazepam was shown by the biotransformations involving dealkylation and hydroxylation. The major urinary metabolite from prazepam is oxazepam glucuronide. The possible presence of unchanged prazepam and/or 3‐hydroxyprazepam glucuronide as well as 4′‐hydroxy oxazepam glucuronide in the urinary excretion is also indicated.
