NEURAL CONTROL OF HEARTBEAT IN THE LEECH AND IN SOME OTHER INVERTEBRATES

摘要
In this review we survey the results of studies of the heartbeat pattern of three particularly favorable experimental preparations: the leech Hirudo, the lobsters Panulirus and Homarus, and the marine snail Aplysia. Our particular emphasis is on the heartbeat of Hirudo, to which our own experimental studies have been devoted and of which no general account has appeared thus far. By contrast, recent reviews are available of studies on the heartbeat control in the lobster and in Aplysia, to which the reader is directed for further details.
