摘要
The known fossil record of New World monkeys dates to the late Oligocene (27 Ma) and discoveries of extinct New World monkeys have increased substantially in the last decade. Despite this increase in awareness, the earliest such discovery has remained unrecognized or misrepresented for more than 150 years. This report identifies subfossil limb bone fragments of a large-bodied, extinct ateline New World monkey from Pleistocene cave deposits in Brazil, and calls for a revision of current concepts of maximum body size in the evolutionary history of the radiation. © 1995 Academic Press.
