摘要
The Oxford scanning proton probe has been used to analyse a range of phytoplankton organisms for Ba and Sr. This is part of an on-going study of the biogeochemical cycling of these elements in Esthwaite Water in the English Lake District. Previous studies have indirectly suggested that dinoflagellates and cyanobacteria may be implicated in such cycles. Present results fail to confirm this suggestion but point to members of the Chlorophyta as being Ba accumulators. Some also accumulate Sr. The paper demonstrates the potential value of PIXE in limnological studies. © 1990.
