The volatile oil of Hyptis mutabilis, Briq. was investigated for its ability to prevent or reduce the formation of ulcerations in the gastric mucosa of male rats induced by indomethacin subcutaneous injection. When previously administered (p.o. and i.p.) the oil (F1473; 50-100 mg/kg) significantly reduced gastric alterations produced by indomethacin in a dose-dependent fashion. However, the mechanism of action of this plant oil is still unknown.
