Refractory metal capsules containing Pu0.2U0.8O2-x pellets were subjected to thermal gradients in the temperature range 1200 to 2000 °C. In each experiment a gradient in the oxygen-to-metal ratio was produced by migration of oxygen to the coldest region of the material. The highest temperature region was correspondingly deficient in oxygen. The data obtained were treated using the Arrhenius equation ln x = Q*/(RT) + C, where x is the deviation from stoichiometry, T is the absolute temperature and Q* is the heat of transport. © 1969.
