LOCAL PACKING IN GLASSY POLYCARBONATE BY CARBON DEUTERIUM REDOR NMR

Carbon-deuterium internuclear dipolar couplings have been measured in a homogeneous mixture of 5% [carbonyl-C-13]polycarbonate and 95%, [methyl-d6]polycarbonate using rotational-echo double-resonance NMR. The observed C-13-H-2 couplings can be interpreted in terms of intermolecular distances. The distance from the carbonyl carbon of one polycarbonate chain to the average deuterium position of the closest methyl group of the nearest-neighbor polycarbonate chain is 3.8 angstrom.
