VORTEX MOTION UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A TEMPERATURE-GRADIENT

摘要
We show that fulfillment of the boundary conditions at the core boundary causes, in the presence of a temperature gradient, the Magnus force acting on the vortices together with the well-known thermal force F(th) = -S(PHI) del-T (S(PHI) is a transport entropy per vortex unit length). By measuring the thermoelectric power S and the resistivity rho of the single-crystalline Bi2Sr2CaCu20x and YBa2Cu3O7-delta in H perpendicular-to ab and H parallel-to ab we observe qualitatively different responses of Abrikosov vortices and Josephson vortices to the temperature gradient and attribute this difference to the absence of the normal cores of Josephson vortices.
