A REFLEXAFS STUDY OF METAL ADSORPTION ON A MICA SURFACE

摘要
Metal Absorption on mineral surfaces is one possible mechanism of pollutant concentration in natural systems. In order to determine the nature of metal-surface interaction we have used glancing angle REFLEXAFS to investigate the adsorption of copper onto a muscovite surface. Analysis of the spectra demonstrate that the copper is directly coordinated to oxygen atoms of silicate or aluminate groups on the mineral surface. A copper-copper interaction is observed at 2.64 Angstrom, consistent with doubly oxygen bridged groups of coppers.
