INCOHERENT INELASTIC NEUTRON-SCATTERING SPECTRUM OF AMMONIUM BROMIDE AT A PRESSURE OF 15 KBAR

摘要：

An incoherent inelastic neutron scattering (IINS) spectrum of NH4Br at 15 kbar was obtained on the TFXA spectrometer at ISIS. The changes in neutron energy transfer caused by the application of pressure are tabulated. The splitting of the first overtone of the fundamental libration, nu-6 (0-2), decreases with pressure indicating a decrease in anharmonicity. This overtone band is fitted using two theoretical models, and a correspondence between the anharmonicity in the system and the way in which each model includes anharmonicity is observed.
