VALIDATION OF A CORRECTED DIGITAL METHOD OF MEASURING CHANGES IN SYSTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE

Presents a corrected digital method of measuring systolic blood pressure (SBP) which compensates for vasomotor activity. 37 high school students and 12 undergraduates served as Ss. Responses to the cold pressor test recorded by this method are compared with responses obtained by other methods. Conclusions are: (1) the mean rise in SBP to the cold pressor test is approximately the same whether measured by corrected digital, indirect, or direct methods; and (2) the corrected digital method can be a more accurate estimate of SBP than an uncorrected method.
