HYDROGEN-CARBON-13 SPIN-SPIN COUPLING IN TRANSITION METAL HYDRIDE COMPLEXES

Analysis of the proton nmr spectra of K3[HIr(CN)5] (1), K3[HRh(CN)5] (2), trans-[HPtCN(P(C2H5)3)2] (4), HMn(CO)5 (5), cis-HMn(CO)4P(C2H5)3 (6), Na[HW2(CO)10] (7), and Na[HMo2(CO)10] (8) either naturally abundant or isotopically enriched in 13CN or 13CO has yielded values of 1H-M-13C spin-spin coupling constants for representative transition metal carbonyl and cyano hydrides. The utility of these coupling constants in structural investigations of hydride complexes of the transition metals is discussed briefly, with particular reference to compounds 2, 5, and 6. © 1969, American Chemical Society.
