摘要
The effect of a static magnetic field on the two-photon absorption probability is investigated within the electric dipole approximation. Two cases are examined: One in which the direction of propagation of both photons is along the applied magnetic field. Another in which the incidence of the first photon is parallel and the incidence of the second photon is perpendicular. The molecular system under investigation is assumed to have non-degenerate electronic states. An application to a particular three-level system is considered as an example. For the effect to be observable, high magnetic fields of the order ≥ 10 T are necessary. The effect may nevertheless become useful in identifying the final states of two-photon absorption processes, for instance in polyenes. © 1979.
