Cu K EXAFS spectra have been measured in order to elucidate the local chemical environment of copper in Nd2CuO4+delta. It has been found that the EXAFS is dominated by coherent multiple scattering in the CuO2 planes, where copper is in almost undistorted square-planar co-ordination. By subtracting the spectra of two samples annealed at different oxygen partial pressures (1 and 10(-6) atm., respectively), evidence is attained of oxygen interstitials in the region of p-type conductivity.
