Comparative cell-to-cell mappings of the basins of driven oscillators with cubic and quartic potential wells show remarkable qualitative and quantitative correlations. We conclude that the recently identified erosion by incursive fractals is a robust phenomenon facilitating the optimal escape from a well. © 1990.
