ANALYSIS OF SEQUENTIAL EFFECTS IN CHOICE REACTION TIMES

Introduces a comprehensive method of sequential data analysis and applies it to RT data from a choice RT (CRT) experiment which consisted of 2 experimental conditions: (1) a 2-choice condition in which the stimulus events were equiprobable, and (2) a 2-choice condition in which 1 of the stimulus events appeared with a probability of .70. 5 volunteers served as Ss. It was found that the repetition effect could not be associated with a single repetition of a signal as previously supposed. Findings indicate how higher order sequential effects operate to produce the 2nd-order repetition effect and that an adequate model of CRT must account for at least 5th-order sequential effects.
