TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENT SPIN-RESOLVED PHOTOEMISSION FROM NI(111) - THEORY AND COMPARISON WITH EXPERIMENT

A tight-binding cluster theory involving fluctuating local moments with short-range order has been applied to calculate normal spin-resolved photoemission spectra from Ni(111) at finite temperatures up to Tc. Fairly good agreement is reached with recent experimental data. Comparison with the low-T data at different photon energies supports a state dependence of the exchange splitting. Calculations for off-normal emission show that near normal a small angular aperture leads - due to band splitting - to an energy broadening larger than the exchange splitting. Off-normal emission is therefore more suitable for obtaining information on the magnetic structure near Tc. © 1990.
