EXPERIMENTAL-DETERMINATION OF THE ARRHENIUS PREEXPONENTIAL TERM FOR THE DISSOCIATION OF THE ANIONS OF META-FLUORONITROBENZENE, ORTHO-FLUORONITROBENZENE, AND PARA-FLUORONITROBENZENE

In 1990, Han and Brauman reported an RRKM Arrhenius preexponential term (A(Arh) of 1.3 x 10(20) s-1 for the rate constant for the reaction m-C6H4FNO2--->C6H4F + NO2-. We present experimental results that support this extraoridinarily high value. The value of A(Arh) for the ortho isomer is determined to be this order of magnitude. The corresponding value for the para isomer is about an order of magnitude lower. The electron affinities of the ortho and para isomers are determined to be 1.1 +/- 0.15 and 1.16 +/- 0.05 eV, respectively. The threshold energy for the dissociation of the anion of o-fluoronitrobenzene is determined to be 43 kcal/mol from the electron capture detector data.
