NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RELAXATION OF POLYDIMETHYLSILOXANES IN SOLUTION

Nuclear magnetic relaxation of solutions of polydimethylsiloxanes have been investigated in several solvents and concentrations as a function of molecular weight. The spin-lattice relaxation time, T1, is independent of concentration in the range studied, while the spin-spin relaxation time, T2, is a function of concentration, the effect being more pronounced for materials of high molecular weight. T2 and T1 differ only slightly in the limit of zero concentration. The energies of activation of both T1 and T2 are found to be between 2000 and 2500 cal/mol. © 1969, American Chemical Society.
