The requirements for a hand-grip force meter could be (dependent on the field of application) as follows: (i) accuracy better than 5%, especially in the low range (5N-100N); (ii) measuring range from 5N-500N (if the first two requirements are incompatible a high accuracy with limited measuring range is preferable to a wide range with lower accuracy); (ii) the results of the measuring should be independent of the point of application of the force; (iv) the device should be robust and easy to handle; (v) the grip should be comfortable. On the basis of these requirements, a new hand-grip dynamometer has been designed using strain gages in a particular way.
