EFFECTS OF PROTEINS ON THE GROWTH OF CADMIUM-SULFIDE SOLS

摘要
The effects of various proteins (ovalbumin, γ-globulin, and lysozyme) on the growth of uniform spherical colloidal cadmium sulfide particles from "seeds" in aqueous media at 26°C are reported. The type and the amount of added protein influenced the size and the morphology of the resulting solids. Particles prepared in the presence of low amounts (<10 ppm) of ovalbumin were smaller, and those formed at higher concentrations of this protein (>10 ppm) and those of lysozyme (>10-3 ppm) or γ-globulin (>10-4 ppm) were larger, as compared to the same dispersion precipitated in the absence of the biopolymers. In the latter samples a roughening of the particle surface was observed. © 1990.
