A SEARCH FOR PRIMEVAL GALAXIES USING A NARROW-BAND IMAGING TECHNIQUE

摘要
We have imaged nine fields through a system of narrow-band filters, in order to search for Lyalpha emission from primeval galaxies at 2.2 less-than-or-equal-to z less-than-or-equal-to 3.3. We report here on our inability to detect emission-line objects down to a 1sigma brightness threshold of 5.6 X 10(-17) erg cm-2 s-1 arcsec-2, with a limiting space density of less than 20 objects per square degree. These results are in disagreement with simple models by about a factor of 10.
