Local mass-transfer coefficients resulting from the impingement of a two-dimensional laminar air jet on a flat surface have been measured using a holographic technique. The regression equation, in terms of the local Sherwood number, Sh, for a Schmidt number of 2.85 was found to be Sh = 0.7( x B)-0.73 Re0.55 for 180 ≤ Re ≤ 600 and 1 ≤ x B ≤ 30 where x is the distance measured from the jet centre, along the flat surface, and B is the slot width. The characteristic length for Sh and Re is 2B. The regression equation represents the best available correlation to date. © 1979.
